Moto G's comeback in the European market

The runaway success of the Moto G has seen Motorola's UK market share jump from nothing to six per cent in just a few months, according to the latest figures.
The success of the budget handset has mostly been driven by younger users, according to market research firm Kantar. Nearly half of the Moto G's sold in the UK are purchased by 16 to 24 year olds with the phone has also popular with those on lower incomes.
"Motorola was nowhere in Europe before the Moto G launched in November last year, but the new model has since boosted the manufacturer to 6% of British sales. It highlights the speed at which a quality budget phone can disrupt a market," said Kantar's Dominic Sunnebo.
Nearly half of all Moto G sales in the UK were made online, with Kantar's figures showing it has also stolen significant business from low-end Samsung devices and Nokia's Lumia range.
The success of the Moto G has helped Android maintain its place as Europe's best-selling phone operating system. Android currently has a 68.9 per cent market share with Apple second on 19 per cent and Windows Phone third on 9.7 per cent.
Motorola's handset division was owned by Google at the time of the Moto G's launch, with rumours at the time claiming Google was selling the device at a loss to increase market share. Now owned by Lenovo, speculation is growing that the Moto G may be replaced by a more profitable model in the near future.
